Information Assurance Specialist

Technology Unlimited Group (TUG) seeks a Cybersecurity / Information Assurance specialist, with 5 or more years’ experience, who will be responsible for the acquisition, installation, maintenance, and usage of the customer’s and/or the organization's local area network(s).

As a Cybersecurity / Information Assurance specialist, you will be responsible for supporting the development and certification of IA compliant systems across the system/software lifecycle. The work will be performed in accordance with the requirements of the Risk Management Framework (RMF) per NIST 800 series requirements. The selection and specification of security controls will be required. You will also test, maintain and support operating system software using Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs) in order to lock down the operating systems.

The work will be performed largely on Windows and Linux operating systems. The candidate should be fully capable of effectively utilizing all elements of Microsoft Office. The work will primarily be conducted on-site at the SPAWAR Systems Center Pacific (SSC PAC) government facility, or at the TUG office nearby, using standard industry tools. Travel may be required.

The candidate should have a Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant field such as Computer Science or Information Technology, and at least 5 years’ experience in a relevant field.
Knowledge of Risk Management Framework (RMF) and related Cybersecurity and Information Assurance related subject matter. Knowledge of software impacted by RMF concerns including VPN, Remote Access, PKI, network security monitoring, server and desktop operating system hardening, Linux, and Cisco IOS.

Able to draft associated RMF and technical documentation for certification submissions, reference and maintenance purposes. Requirements include:

  • Performing Information Assurance (IA) procedures to include data backup recovery procedures, and STIG verification.
  • Providing support for the assessment and compliance of information systems with RMF standards.
  • Performing IA functions on the Linux OS.

Residency and Clearance Requirements:

  • Eligibility for a security clearance is required (thus U.S. Citizenship is required).

Desired Skills and Qualifications:

The ideal candidate should have in addition to the required skills, experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Security+ and computing environment certification.
  • Ability to set up and maintain VM images of build/developer environments.
  • Containerization (Docker, OpenShift, Kubernetes, or similar) or Virtualization (VirtualBox, Qemu/KVM, or similar).
  • SCM (Git, or similar).
  • Scripting (Ruby, Grunt JS, Shell scripting (e.g., Bash, Zsh, Ksh, etc.), or similar).
  • SSO (IPA (or FreeIPA), OAuth, Keycloak, or similar).

Support for other System Administration and development tasks is desired including the ability to:

  • Quickly learn how to install, configure and administer various Commercial Off-the-Shelf (COTS) automation products and software applications unique to military missions.
  • Establish, maintain and enforce operational standards.
  • Review performance logs and monitoring overall system status.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve system hardware, software and connectivity issues.
  • Create shell programs and utility scripts.
  • Perform configurations and adjustments to enhance system performance.
